Local Exchange and Solidarity Network of Magnesia :

an alternative, local, social economy

Local Exchange and Solidarity Network of Magnesia is an alternative, local, social economy that began in 2010 in the standards of similar others networks of foreign countries as a result of the economic crisis in Greece. It is an attempt that has about 1000 members and is housed in a building that has been given by the University of Thessaly for free. The network is an initiative of independent individuals sharing common values such as solidarity, mutual aid, equality, using an alternative way for the exchange of services (the Local exchange trading system, known as TEM).

When a new member subscribes to the network, he/she can add on his/her profile what service and/or what product can offer and at the same time has access to the products and services of others. Thus, exchanges can be made more easily and there is no need of direct exchanges only between two members.

Some of the products offered from members include clothes, food, various furniture, electrical appliances, medicines, garden equipment, decorations, gifts, books etc. as well as services like PC repair, cars repair, hairdressing, domestic assistance, accounting, various school courses, babysitting, alternative therapists, etc.

The network has its basis in Almirou & Lahana, right behind the central bus station.
